There are many such plants on our earth which are somehow related to God. It is told in the ancient texts of Hindu religion that God himself resides in the plants. Today we will learn about all these trees. There are many trees on earth in which gods or goddesses reside. Some of them are big and some are small plants. Those plants in which God resides are worshiped in India. India is famous for its Sanskriti.
#1 Basil Plant (Tulsi)
This plant which provides oxygen 24 hours is known or famous in India as Tulsi. Basil (Ocimum basilicum) Also called great basil, is a culinary herb of the Lamiaceae (mint) family. It is a tender plant and is used in cuisines around the world.In Western cuisine, the generic term "basil" refers to the variety also known as sweet basil or Genovese basil. Basil is native to tropical regions from Central Africa to Southeast Asia.In temperate climates basil is treated as an annual plant, however, basil can be grown as a short-lived perennial or biennial in warmer horticultural zones with tropical or Mediterranean climates.
There are many customs and beliefs associated with Tulsi. The ancient Egyptians and ancient Greeks believed that basil would open the gates of heaven to a dying person.It is said that Lord Vishnu resides in this plant. In India, this plant is known as Tulsi Mata. It is a very ancient plant.
#2 Sacred fig (Peepal)
Peepal (Sanskrit: अश्वत्त्) is a giant tree of the banyan or sycamore species found in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China and Indonesia, which has been given an important place in Indian culture and is worshiped on many festivals.Like the banyan and sycamore trees, its flowers also remain secret, hence it is also called 'guhyapushpak'. Like other Kshiri (milky) trees, Peepal also has a long life. Its fruits are full of seeds like banyan-sycamore and are like small peanuts in shape.But the tree born from these takes the biggest form and remains standing for hundreds of years.
In Indian culture, Peepal is a divine tree, with the touch of its satvik influence, the inner consciousness becomes thrilled and happy. It is described in Skanda Purana that Vishnu always resides in the root of Ashwattha (peepal), Keshava in the trunk, Narayana in the branches, Sri Hari in the leaves and Achyuta along with all the gods in the fruits.The lineage of the one who plants Peepal tree is never destroyed. Those who serve the people attain salvation. For praying to the Peepal tree, the mantra of praying to the Peepal tree has also been given in Ashvattha Stotra. [d] In the famous book Vratraj, the glory of Peepal tree is mentioned in Ashvatthopasana. Its importance has been described by Maharishi Shaunak in Ashvatthopanayanavrata.
#3 Neem tree (Neem)
Neem is a very good plant which is compatible with the Indian environment and is found in abundance in India. Neem is considered a very useful tree in Ayurveda. Its taste is bitter but its benefits are many and very impressive.In Hinduism, the Neem tree is associated with the goddess Shitala, who is believed to have the power to heal diseases and protect against evil spirits. The leaves and twigs of the tree are often used in religious ceremonies and are believed to have purifying properties.
#4 Banana (Katli)
Grassy plants of Musa species and the fruit produced by them are generally called banana. They are originally from the tropical region of Southeast Asia and were probably first cultivated in Papua New Guinea. Today, they are cultivated throughout the tropical regions. The first evidence of bananas was found in Malaysia 4000 years ago.
Banana is regarded as an incarnation of the Goddess Parvati. In the Western Ghats, the ‘Banana tree’ is believed to be the Goddess Nanda Devi. Her images are carved out of the stalk and floated down the river in the month of Kartika. In the Mahabharata, Kadalivana or the Banana garden on the banks of Kubera pushkarni was the home of Monkey God, Hanuman. The Banana plant is considered sacred to the nine forms of Hindu Goddess ‘Kali’.
#5 Banyan tree (Bargad)

Its stem is straight and hard. Roots emerge from its branches and hang in the air and as they grow, they penetrate into the earth and become pillars.Banyan trees feature prominently in many Asian and Pacific legends and religions, some of which include: Many references to the banyan tree can be found in the Pali canon of Buddhism.
According to Vietnamese mythology of the Mid-Autumn Festival the black marks on the moon are Banyan. Kolkata The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden has a banyan tree, which is 250 years old. This tree is known as the world's largest banyan tree. This huge banyan tree is located in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Garden, Kolkata. This tree was established here in 1787.
#6 Sandalwood (Chandan)
Sandalwood is a class of woods of Santalum species of trees. The woods are heavy, yellow, and fine-grained, and, unlike many other aromatic woods, they retain their scent for decades. Sandalwood oil is extracted from forests. Sandalwood is often considered one of the most expensive woods in the world.
Brahma Vaivarta Purana states that Goddess Lakshmi resides on fragrant sandalwood. In the Ayodhya Kanda of Valmiki Ramayana, there is mention of a beautiful building of Shri Ram, which is fragrant with sandalwood.
#7 Indian bael (Bael)
Bel or Belpatar, is a fruit tree native to India. Its other names are - Shandilru (pain reliever), Shri Phal, Sadaphal etc.Bael trees are found all over India, especially in the Himalayan foothills, in dry hilly areas up to a height of 4000 feet.Because it is important from religious point of view, it is planted near temples. In Hindu religion, it is considered to be the form of Lord Shiva and it is believed that Mahadev resides in its root and its three leaves which are together are considered to be the form of Trinity, but the group of five leaves is more auspicious. It is considered so, hence it is worshipped.
#8 Lotus (Kamal)
Lotus (botanical name: Nelumbian nucifera) is a plant of the botanical world in which large and beautiful flowers bloom. It is the national flower of India. Its names in Sanskrit are – Kamal, Padma, Pankaj, Pankruh, Sarsij etc.Lotus is found in almost all parts of the world. This happens even in lakes, ponds and pits.In India, the sacred lotus is also mentioned in the Puranas and there are many proverbs and religious beliefs about it. It has special religious and cultural importance in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain religions. That is why it has the distinction of being the national flower of India.
In the Puranas, Brahma is said to have originated from the lotus that emerged from the navel of Vishnu and Lakshmi is said to be Padma, Kamala and Kamalasana. Four-armed Vishnu is considered to be the one holding the conch, chakra, mace and lotus. Pictures or signs of lotus are found at many places in Indian temples. In almost all the statues of Lord Buddha that have been found, he is shown sitting on a lotus.
