When is India's Republic Day?

In india, some days are celebrated as festival to honour important national events. 26th January is celebrated as Republic day every year. It was on this day in 1950 that India become a democratic republic. The constitution of free India came in to force on this day. Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the first president of Indian republic.

Description of Indian republic day 

The Republic day is celebrated with great pomp and show, The Republic day parade is held in New Delhi. The three wings of armed forces Army, Navy and Air force take part in this grand parade. The President of India takes the salute. He is supreme commander of the army. The armed forces bands play music as soldiers March. They are followed by tanks and trucks carrying weapons. School children dressed in colourful custom parents drills and dance. There is a display of development by each state of India.

Function in Republic day 

Some buildings are illuminated at night. Similar shows are held in all cities and villages of india. People of all religions and casts take part in these functions. There are songs and speeches on objectives of the construction of india. The Nation flag in unfurled on all the public buildings.

Importance of this day 

The Republic day is red letter day in the history of the country. It reminds us that all castes, creeds and religions are equal in the eyes of the law. The powers of Government are in the hands of the common people. The Government is responsible for the welfare of the people. This day is a national holiday.
